Viera High students win state fashion competition
Samantha Henderson, left, Emma Scheinbart and Kristen Anthony won state FCCLA titles for their fashion and design projects and will be attending national competition in San Diego in July.
The Viera High School chapter of Family, Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) had an impressive first showing at state competition from March 6 through 9 in Orlando.
Three students won their categories and will be going on to the national competition in July in San Diego. Three others earned bronze classifications.
Kristen Anthony and Samantha Henderson, both seniors, won state for their team project on interior design. Freshman Emma Scheinbart won for her recycle and redesign project.
The bronze winners are Georgia Kennedy for entrepreneurship, Gina Lorenzini for fashion and Erin Yarbrough for fashion.
“We’re obviously excited because this was our first year competing,” said Carrie Humphrys, Interior/Fashion Design teacher at Viera High. “Already students are talking about joining and wanting to compete next year.”
The entire team is fundraising to pay for the three winners’ trips to San Diego. All of the proceeds from the group’s Tax Day Treasure Fashion and Design Show on April 15 at Viera High School will go towards the trip.
The students are also planning a garage sale in the Oak Park subdivision in Suntree on April 23. Others who want to contribute can go to gofundme.com/2wta34f4.
