Four still alive for Club Championship

Guy Sullivan, Tom Bergeron, Tim Brown and Mike Piccinnini have advanced to the final four of the Viera East Men’s Golf Association Club Championship.

The top 12 VEMA golfers were selected after three months of qualifying. Sullivan, Bergeron, Brown and Piccinnini advanced along with Steven Wing, Peter Maloney, Steve Eavenson, Jim Robinson, Jim Willcoxin, Gary Shiffrin, Marc Brown and Craig Smith.

VEMA’s regular events have averaged 72 golfers this winter. The weather has been conducive for golf.

On Jan. 31, VEMA used a Stableford scoring match with four-man teams using 3, 2, 1 best balls on the par 5s, par 4s and par 3s.

For a par 5, a team would count the lowest scores for three players. For a par 4, the lowest two scores would be counted.

Three teams tied for first. The teams were Abe Leonard, Bob David, Steven Wing and Gary Baxter; Chris Howes, Glen Tarsha and Kevin Dalvano; and Jim Robinson, Rick Molsoch, Dave Hill and Lorenzo Battle.

On Feb. 7, VEMA had individual flight events. Brown, Wing and Maloney were the top golfers in the A flight.

Jim Ward, Dalvano and Jim Kopliner were the leading golfers in the B flight. In the C flight, Mike Schmitt, Dennis Lamb and Bruce Schwanda were the top golfers.

In the D flight, Marty Gillete, Dave Hill and Andy Mammay were the leading golfers. In the E flight, Glen Tarsha, Dick May and Tony Abraham led the way.

Mammay on No. 4, Ron Gonyea on No. 7 and Tarsha on Nos. 13 and 16 were closest-to-the-pin.
