Harmony Farms’ Blizzard to be rescheduled
Families will get to spend a free day of fun at Harmony Farms Blizzard at the Barn Sunday, Dec. 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. The Viera nonprofit provides equine-assisted therapy to children and adults with special needs, including injured combat veterans.
New this year is a holiday wreath sale, including an equine-themed version built around a majestic horse’s head.
The holiday open house will feature a petting zoo, face painting, pony rides, treats to feed horses and photo opportunities with costumed mini-equines and Santa himself. Food and fun vendors will fill out the day’s offerings.
“It’s a rare treat to find a free day on the farm for the family to enjoy,” said Pam Rogan, founder and executive director. “And it is a great opportunity for us to share with the community the great things happening at Harmony Farms.”
This will be the last Blizzard at the big red barn at 5300 Stadium Parkway, north of Viera Boulevard. It is the original barn for horses that once worked the cattle ranch of A. Duda & Sons, a portion of which is now the town of Viera. Cattle operations are now limited to a large agricultural preserve west of the town, which converts to a watershed preserve that runs to the St. Johns River.
The Duda family had been donating the use of the barn and land to Harmony Farms in what is now a residential area, but recently donated land for a permanent facility south of the west end of Wickham Road. The area will be a lightly developed buffer between residential development and the agricultural preserve.
Rogan will give an update on relocation plans at the Blizzard. Funds will be raised at the event toward construction of a combination barn and operations facility on the new property.
