The Viera East Men’s Golf Association (VEMA) has enjoyed a busy and active fall with regular weekly league play and one of VEMA’s many special events, the 2014 Director’s Cup.

Competitors who have advanced in the Director’s Cup matches are Peter Maloney and Bob David in Flight A; Raj Patel and Dale Zeigler in Flight B; and Jack McGinn and Tom Campbell in Flight C. All Director’s Cup matches will be completed in early December, and the playoff matches will be completed by Dec. 18.

On Nov. 20, VEMA members participated in the VEMA November Turkey Shoot. This holiday event featured a closest-to-the-pin contest on all four of Viera East Golf Club’s par 3 holes. Competitors whose golf shots on these holes were the closest-to-the-flags received a holiday turkey just in time for Thanksgiving.

VEMA Tournament Director Raj Patel got a rare hole-in-one during his Director’s Cup match with fellow competitor Jim Donnelly. Patel aced the par 3, No. 4 on Oct. 30. He used a 5 hybrid club. Besides Donnelly, his playing partners included Ted Edlow and Steve Wing. This is Patel’s second hole-in-one. His first was on No. 16 at Viera East Golf Club. Patel received $50 from VEMA in recognition of his accomplishment.

Fred Berg once again shot his age — 77. His playing partners were John Gulla, Sam Speziale and Larry Woolfe.

All VEMA members are invited to sign up for and play in the Dec. 18 league event where a drawing for four free holiday hams will be held.

VEMA members are reminded to pick up their 2014-2015 members guides and directories if they have not already done so. These booklets can be picked up each Thursday during league registration.
