State recognizes Manatee Elementary PE program

As the years go by and technology improves, healthy habits are needed at an early age. Manatee Elementary School earned a state award for its successful health and education program. Tabitha Best, who operates the program and has taught at Manatee for five years, participates in fun events such as Walk to School Day, the annual walkathon and the daily Morning Mile.

The award for her program was recognized by the state of Florida and earned the school the 2014 SHAPE (Society of Health and Physical Educators) Florida Program Recognition Award. This was presented to Carl Brown, principal, and Best, in St. Petersburg in mid October. The Brevard School Board also honored Best at a recent school board meeting Oct. 28.
