Modern Christmas traditions usually include a few movies that families enjoy sitting down to watch together. One that has stood the test of time is “A Christmas Story,” the classic tale of Ralphie and his quest for the perfect Christmas present: a Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle.

Families are invited to come join Ralphie in his adventures on Saturday, Dec. 12 at Jack Mahon Park at 7550 Spyglass Hill Road in Suntree when the Suntree Master Homeowners Association and UNO Pizzeria &  Grill presents “A Christmas Story.” The fun starts at 4 p.m. with photos with Santa and other family activities before the movie starts at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and Uno will have a variety of food and beverages for sale.

The family event will also feature a golf cart decorating contest with two prizes awarded for Most Festive and Most Creative. Golf cart lineup begins at 4:10 p.m. at the entrance to Autumn Glen on Spyglass Hill Road west of the park and the golf cart parade will escort Santa to the event. Golf carts must pre-register to enter the contest.

SMHA Parks & Recreation chair Heather Murdoch said the choice of movie hearkens back to many a holiday memory, both from the classic and from one’s own childhood.

“‘A Christmas Story’ is a classic movie that is a yearly tradition with fun themes of frozen tongues on flagpoles and Ralphie’s never-ending pursuit of his air rifle,” Murdoch added. “It’s going to be great holiday fun.”

The event’s featured charity is Nana’s House, a community that provides a home for families as an alternative to state foster care and receives no government funds. Families can bring new, unwrapped toys to donate.

Other event sponsors include AT&T U-verse, ASAP Pest Solutions Inc., Tamara Corell – State Farm Agent, Beach House Designs LLC, BrightStar Care, Christie Dental, Dial DP Air Conditioning, M&B Golf Carts, Darlene Winone-Ekdahi – Purium Health Products, Jo Armuth- Younique, Cruise One Dream Vacations, Jeff Varnadoe Painting Inc., and Fogarty Inspection Services Group.
