Viera Christmas Fit-Mas 3K delights runners and walkers with festive race course

A first in the Viera community this holiday season, the Christmas Fit-Mas 3K Run/Walk is an invitation to all residents to partake of some holiday cheer on Dec. 11.

Sponsored by Pizza Gallery & Grill and Edible Art Catering, the Christmas-themed run/walk will benefit area sports clubs, including the Space Coast United Soccer Club, Viera Suntree Little League and Suntree Viera Youth Football, which serve more than 3,000 youth athletes and their families.

“We have been so fortunate to have had the continued patronage of this community,” said Chris Conneen, founder and CEO of Pizza Gallery & Grill and Edible Art Catering. “I wanted to do something that would say thanks to our friends and neighbors by supporting programs that develop our youth and teach them values that will carry them further in life.”

The starting gun will sound at 6 p.m. directly in front of Viera Regional Park’s community center. Runners and walkers decked out in green and red glow-in-the-dark necklaces will traverse a unique nighttime race course — through two tunnels to Viera Charter School and back — filled with music and decorated with colorful lights, sparkling ornaments and brightly lit inflatable displays.

“It will be a very colorful, festive holiday spirit run in the theme of Christmas and fitness,” said Coneen, who is hoping to have 1,000 runners and walkers turn out for the event.

Participants are encouraged to dress with a holiday flair. Ugly sweaters, festive hats and Santa costumes are welcomed. There will be a prize for the best Santa costume.

“We are promoting families, parents, grandparents, moms with strollers and babies to come out and participate,” Coneen said.

Medals will be awarded to all first-, second- and third-place finishers in all age groups, and teams of up to 10 runners and walkers.

The after-event party will feature awards and catering by Pizza Gallery & Grill.

Race packets can be picked up on race day at Viera Regional Park beginning at 4:30 p.m. or at the Running Zone in Melbourne.
