Dan Wilborn Quintet comes to Rockledge Country Club
The Dan Wilborn Quintet will perform from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Rockledge Country Club.
The event is sponsored by the Space Coast Jazz Society.
Wilborn plays alto, tenor and soprano sax as well as the flute. He has performed at many venues and in high profile shows, playing with groups such as The Puzzlers, Equator, The Rainmakerz, The DanRonic Project and The Space Coast Big Band. Radio shows such as the WGRV’s The Groove and WFIT also have featured Wilborn.
The Quintet will include Wilborn’s son, Dexter, who also has mastered the sax, but will support Wilborn senior on bass. Dexter Wilborn has performed in many Brevard venues with a diverse group of musicians and bands from rock to gospel to jazz. Currently, he plays with the University of Florida Gospel Choir where he is a doctoral student in Counseling Psychology.
Other members include Ryan Waszmer, Ashton Bailey-Gould and Matt Mills.
Waszmer, a guitarist, majored in jazz studies at the University of Central Florida and was the lead guitarist for Jeff Rupert’s Flying Horse Big Band. He has performed with notable musicians such as Richard Drexler, Larry Coryell, Marty Morell and other jazz luminaries now residing in Florida and has played at jazz festivals throughout the state and at the renowned Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
Also very active on the local scene is Bailey-Gould, a freelance musician, who currently attends Eastern Florida College. Bailey-Gould is a sought after drummer who plays with many groups and at many venues, including the Henegar Center, Heidi’s Jazz Club and the Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts in Orlando.
Mills, on trumpet, studied jazz at the University of South Florida. He often works at Disney venues and plays with the Orlando Jazz Orchestra and groups such Big Band Voodoo Daddy and others.
Space Coast Jazz Society concerts are open to the public. General admission can be paid at the door or purchased online at SpaceCoastJazzSociety.org.
Tickets are $10 for Jazz Society and Rockledge Country Club members and $15 for non-members. Students younger than 25 can enter for free with a college ID. Food and beverages are also available for purchase.
