Contest should bring out Brevard’s best writers

The Space Coast Writers’ Guild and the Brevard Authors’ Society are looking for talented fiction writers to compete in the inaugural Novus Annos Short Story Contest.

All entries, 2,500 words or less, must be received by Feb. 28. The contest is open to all Brevard County residents 18 years or older.

The topic can be general/literary fiction, romance, historical fiction, mystery/suspense, horror or science based/alternative history. Anything with explicit or foul language will not be accepted. Children’s stories also will not be accepted, and erotic themes will not be accepted.

First prize is worth $250, second prize is $175 and third prize is $100. Fourth and fifth prize winners will receive honorable mention awards.

The entry fee is $10.

Stories must be at least 1,000 words and no more than 2,500 words in length.

The top five winners will be notified by May 1. Awards will be presented at a ceremony at 10 a.m. May 26 at the Central Public Library in Cocoa.
