Viera resident — veteran golf nut
John and Jackie Gulla
Jackie and John Gulla have traveled with the Army and in civilian life. During these travels, he has collected more than 350 logo golf balls, many of which are on display in his Viera home.
Many of the balls are from courses the couple have played. Others are the result of family, neighbors, friends and fellow golfers who have brought them from places they have visited. Gulla owns golf balls from courses in South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Australia and Taiwan. He started his collection after returning from his tours of duty in Vietnam in 1966-67 and 1970-71, so he has no golf balls from either the Republic of Vietnam or Taipei — two courses he played while in Southeast Asia on active duty.
His collection covers a majority of the 50 states and includes Hawaii and Alaska, but he is still shy for a number of them. He uses the email address of firstname.lastname@example.org and asks anyone going on vacation to purchase logo golf balls on his behalf, reimbursing them for their efforts.
One of his most cherished golf balls is the one he received from his mother-in-law, Rita E. Chabot. He said the golf ball has been in outer space and as a result, holds a prominent place on his spare bedroom wall.
