Inside the ropes at VEMA

The 2017 Viera East Men’s Golf Association (VEMA) summer season is underway at Viera East Golf Course. David Hill, the VEMA tournament director, selects the event played
each week.

The director has a number of exciting and challenging formats to choose from. On June 15, the group played a two-man, best-ball net score event with nine teams in the first flight and nine teams in the second flight. Despite harsh weather, the group was able to complete the round.

J. McComas and Ed Raleigh won the first flight, while the team of Jim Robinson and Duck Milne tied Robert Urban and Tom Campbell for second place. Steve Wing and Tony Hines placed fourth.

The team of Mark Brown and Mike Schmitt tied Bruce Schwanda and Phil Rooney for first place in the second flight. Raj Patel and Frank Westwell finished third. The team of David Horst and Alan Pinette placed fourth.

The closest-to-the-pin winners were Bill Oakley on No. 4, Wilson Butler on No. 7, Wing on No. 13 and Brown on No. 16.

VEMA plays every Thursday morning at Viera East Golf Course. If anyone is interested in joining the league, it is open to all men 21 and older. Contact Lane Burney at the Viera East Golf Course pro shop for more details. It is a great way to make new friends and enjoy the fellowship of golf. All skill levels are welcome.
