The Greater Federation Woman’s Club Viera Woman’s Club, Inc. celebrated its 15th anniversary at a May 13 general meeting.

The meeting was held at the Viera Holiday Inn.

The GFWC Viera Woman’s Club, Inc. was formed in 2004 when 11 Viera women met and voted to establish the GFWC Viera Woman’s Club, Inc. It currently has approximately 110 members.

Sara Dessaurau, the second vice president for GFWC Florida, and Margaret Brugman, the District 6 director for GFWC Florida, spoke at the gathering.

“We gave out certificates for longevity — 15 years and above,’’ said Sally Kramer, the president of the GFWC Viera Woman’s Club. “Audrey King has been a member of GFWC Florida for 62 years. The Viera Singers sang and we had some birthday cake.’’

The club has a lot to brag about. Through the end of its 14th year, it had compiled more than 150,000 volunteer hours and contributed more than $500,000 in donations to local, national and international charitable organizations.

The list of its community service programs includes arts, conservation, education, home life, public issues, fighting domestic violence, international outreach programs and the GFWC Florida President’s Project. That is a charitable project chosen by the state president to be supported by each club in Florida.

Some of the local charities it has supported include the Brevard Zoo, Brevard County Schools (including reading grants and mentoring students at Viera High School), the Veterans Clinic, The Haven, Devereux, Guardian ad litum, Serene Harbor Domestic Violence Center, Canine Companions for Independence, The Children’s Hunger Project, Autumn House and other Alzheimer’s and nursing facilities, Brevard Sharing Center and Meals on Wheels.
