Forever Young Senior Expo comes to Brevard Museum of History & Natural Science

Visitors 55 and up can explore the Brevard Museum of History & Natural Science free of charge during the Forever Young Senior Expo from10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 13.

Guests can also enjoy live music and other entertainment, exhibits and vendors, veterans booths and a free morning coffee station at the indoor-outdoor fun festival onsite at 2201 Michigan Ave. in Cocoa.

Central Florida’s top Irish musician Cahir O'Doherty will kick off St. Patrick’s Day fun throughout the day. The singer/guitarist presents Irish and American folk music, including ballads, love songs, humorous tunes and traditional sing-a-longs.

"I love the acoustic Irish songs that everyone else loves to sing along to as well," O'Doherty said. "There will be no strangers at Forever Young, only friends who haven't met yet."

The expo features a variety speakers. At 11 a.m., award-winning travel writer John Trieste will share his favorite family-friendly day trips on a budget. 

At 12:30 p.m., Dr. Sohair Wastawy, dean of libraries at Florida Institute of Technology, presents "The Library of Alexandria: The History of the Ancient and the Rebirth of the New," a discussion of this ancient world center and its journey back to prominence.

And at 1:30 p.m., Dr. John Windsor, a professor and the program chair of marine and environmental systems at Florida Tech, presents "Does the Indian River Lagoon need Weightwatchers?” He’ll pose possible solutions to algae "superblooms" and unexplained marine casualties that have put the Indian River Lagoon in national headlines.

Visitors can enter to win a grand prize of a motorcoach day tour for two to St. Augustine, the oldest city in the United States.

The museum will waive its regular $9 admission for visitors 55 and up and will accept donations.

Parking is free. Attendees can park at the museum or at the Eastern Florida State College Planetarium parking lot and take a five-minute nature path to museum. There's also parking at the nearby Solar Energy Center back parking lot, with shuttle bus service to and from the museum.

The expo is presented by Brevard Museum, Health First, Florida Tech, VNA Home Healthcare and Exploration Tower at Port Canaveral.
