Psst! Want a tip on great food at great prices? The deal is right around the corner at Pizza Gallery & Grill, where, in January, owner Chris Conneen launched the Boomer Buffet.
Admittedly, the hours — from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday — may not lure those who prefer dining on the late side, but for the early birds, an all-you-can-eat deal of gourmet pizza, pasta, salads, soups, desserts and Pizza Gallery’s legendary garlic knots for $6.99 is hard to beat. Add the 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. happy hour pricing on cocktails, wine and beer for an even better value.
Conneen concocted the promotion to fill a traditionally “dead” time in restaurants and his plan is working.
“It’s been well received because I don’t know of any other place around here where you can get this value,” he said.
There is certainly a market in the area, Conneen added.
“Viera has a large boomer demographic, and many of them are retired and prefer to eat earlier,” he said.
If you’re not a boomer, don’t worry, because you can still partake of the bountiful buffet. Although Conneen coined it the Boomer Buffet, he has made the special available to all ages, as long as you can make it to the artsy Avenue Viera pizzeria within the allotted hours.
“You don’t have to be retired or a boomer,” Conneen said.
“The kids may be off from school or you might want to leave work early.”
Mondays are not included in the offer, because Pizza Gallery already offers a significant discount those days with half-off pricing on pizzas and calzones.
“A lot of our customers for the Boomer Buffet are regulars on Mondays already,” Conneen said.
It’s been a dozen years since Conneen relocated his pizzeria to the Avenue. He started his first restaurant at the 1900 Building in downtown Melbourne before moving it to Wickham Road across from Eastern Florida State College. From the beginning, Conneen envisioned a pizzeria that also an was art gallery with a menu inspired by the masters, such as the Mexican pizza, inspired by master of Southwestern landscapes, Georgia O’Keeffe.
He has always been a staunch supporter of his community, and many local organizations have benefited from his pizza-laden largesse at special events and promotions.
Pizza Gallery’s weekly “Pizza with a Purpose” events, usually held on Tuesday nights, donate 15 percent of event sales to local community organizations, schools, churches and individuals in need.
