The Viera-Suntree Little League will celebrate its 20th anniversary on Saturday.

Opening Day ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. on the fields at Viera Regional Park.

Among the guests for one of Brevard County’s most successful Little League programs will be former presidents Jeff Small, Cris Smith, John Glendenning and Jeff Piersall.

Also on hand will be Kevin Trainor, the 2008 Little League Good Sport Award recipient. The sportsmanship award is given to one player each year from a nation-wide field that includes more than 7,000 leagues and more than 2.7 million players.

Once again, the VSLL will work in conjunction with the Florida Senior Sports Association (FSAA), who will have Ed Rose and Jack Aronson on hand Saturday.

Through the years, VSLL players have donated used equipment to youths who are not as fortunate as they are. Under the program “Feeding the Dream,” the FSAA has been collecting equipment since 2013 and delivering it to players in the Dominican Republic.

In addition to 15,000 baseball equipment items, the FSAA also has installed two wells to provide water to 500 residents who never had running water before, sponsored three boys from the Dominican Republic to attend the Florida Prep Academy and provided wheel chairs and food boxes to families in need.

The VSLL will again gather equipment and uniforms for donation on Saturday.
