Spring announces its arrival in Brevard County with orange blossoms, azalea bushes in bloom and the North Brevard Art League’s annual Spring Show and Competition. This show will be the league’s 56th.

It will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 3; from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 4; and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 5 at the Holiday Inn at 4715 Helen Hauser Blvd. near Interstate 95 and Highway 50 in Titusville.

An artist Mix and Mingle will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 3.

“Last year, 80 artists contributed 131 pieces,” said Valorie Stanley, the show’s co-chair. “This year, 80 to 100 artists are expected to participate. More than $4,000 in cash awards are given annually.”

Various categories of artwork by adults and children will be on exhibit and available for purchase. The categories include:

Oil and Acrylic

Watercolor

Mixed Media, Fiber Arts and Collage

Photography and Digital Art

Sculpture and 3-Dimensional Art

Colored Pencil, Graphite, Pen and Ink and Pastels

There also will be raffle baskets, a silent auction and a Disney ticket raffle. Attendees can vote for a People’s Choice Award.

Last year, Heidi Thamert, the co-owner of the Downtown Art Gallery, was awarded Best in Show for her photograph, “104 Years of Faith.” Her winning work shows the hands of a long-time family friend.

“She continued in her faith her entire life, working hard, gardening and driving her car until she was in her late 90s,” Thamert said. “She also loved roller-coasters.”

Artists at the North Brevard Art League share their talent with the community through workshops and classes. Adult classes include oil painting, drawing, pen and ink, pastels, watercolors and pottery. Children’s classes are offered in art and pottery.

Children in Stanley’s art classes made Valentine’s Day cards for first responders, nurses, hospital patients and nursing home residents.

“The cards were received with much gratitude and joy,” Stanley said.

The North Brevard Art League is at 1421 Draa Road in Titusville.
