A team comprised of Charlie Beranger, Lana Trapold, Linda Edlow and Jim Mieritz has captured the Viera East Bowling League championship.

The group, which bowls at Brunswick Harbour Lanes on Wickham Road, had a 19-week season that lasted from the first week in November to the last week in March.

The league, which began in 2000, is traditionally comprised of players from the Viera East community, though in the past four seasons, it has opened itself up for bowlers from other areas of Brevard County.

The league is not sanctioned, which means it can make up its own set of rules. Mieritz described the play as non-competitive in the beginning, but added it always seems to get a little more so as the season comes to a close.

To help keep things interesting, teams are modified each year, though some do stay intact with the number of teams varying from four to 10 depending on the number of players who participate. This year marked the first time this particular team has won the league title, but it was the third championship for Mieritz, who has served as the league president since 2009.

The league is always looking for new bowlers and teams.
