Inside the Ropes
As the VEMA golf season comes to an end for major tournaments, there are still a number of exciting golf competitions during the summer.
One of the biggest tournaments of the year is to determine who will be the VEMA golf champion for 2016. This tournament brings out the best in competition.
The VEMA Club Championship was earned after two rounds of golf with some tough conditions and difficult pin placements coupled with fast greens.
Mike Piccinninni shot with rounds of 81 and 78 to win the championship. He was followed by Jim Robinson and Peter Maloney.
The Masters Jacket Tournament was played at the same time and was a handicap tournament with the flight winners being Peter Maloney, Bob Frasier, Jack Webb and John Gulla. They all competed on April 21 in a handicap playoff to determine the winner.
Congratulations to Bob Frasier for recording a hole-in-one on Feb. 18 at Viera East Golf Course. He used a 5 iron on the 168-yard seventh hole. This was almost duplicated in April on the same hole with the ball stopping 10 inches from the cup.
