The Space Coast United Soccer Club and the new turf fields at Viera Regional Park will play host to some big-time competition this month.

The Florida Cup semifinals and finals are set for May 11 and 12 with some of the top soccer teams, players and their families coming to Viera.

“The new turf fields at Viera have been a great opportunity to host state-wide soccer tournaments,” Space Coast United Director of Coaching Scott Armstrong said in an email.

“With the upcoming Florida Cup event in May, it will be Space Coast’s third co-hosted state soccer event since February. Viera and Brevard County have now become a state soccer hub for tournaments as we are perfectly located on (the) east coast traffic corridor which makes us the perfect location.

“On May 11, we expect to host between 550 and 700 people to use our facilities and spend their money at our local businesses whilst watching their children play in a great tournament.”

There will be seven different age groups for both boys and girls competing in the tournament, ranging from U12 to U19.

Game times for the event had not been released at press time. It is believed the action will start at 8 a.m. and run throughout the day.

The official site of the event is floridapremiership.org/2018-florida-cup-2/. Game times and matchups for each age group will be updated and listed there for anyone interested in attending.

Admission is free.

“Being able to host Florida Cup games at Viera shows the investment made in the turf fields has been acknowledged by entities outside of Brevard County,” Space Coast United President Kevin Koegel wrote in an email.

“The turf fields will allow not just Viera or Brevard County, but other Florida counties and soccer clubs to enjoy wonderful competitive games for a long time to come”
