Jacob Lombardo loves the Charlie Corbeil Youth Art Contest and hopes to compete in it for the next few years.

“It allows children to express their inner artist and get recognized for it,’’ said Lombardo, a 12-year-old Suntree resident who is a seventh grader at DeLaura Middle School.

Lombardo, who was born on Long Island, New York, created the triptych “Paradise Ocean” to reflect this year’s art contest theme of the “Beauty of Wild Florida.”

A triptych is a work of art that is divided into three sections.

“My work is Cocoa Beach or the Sebastian River Inlet in the summer,’’ said Lombardo, who likes to play the guitar and paint portraits of dogs, cats, sea turtles and exotic animals. “It’s the colors of summer and it brings out the Florida in Florida. I used real sand from Cocoa Beach, silver glitter paint, royal blue paint, turquoise paint and white paint with splashes.’’ VV
