Group of churches will pause to pray for the needy on day before Thanksgiving
The Suntree/Viera Area Association of Churches, a group of churches that partner to better assist the needy, will host a Thanksgiving Eve service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26 at Faith “Viera” Lutheran Church, on Viera Boulevard just east of Murrell Road.
Choirs, bands and lay and faith leaders will perform and speak or offer prayers for the less fortunate. Free cider and snacks will follow. The event is free, but nonperishable food items and donations will be accepted for distribution through S/VAAC member Advent Lutheran Church at 7550 N. Wickham Road, which distributes bags of food at 6 p.m. Thursdays.
“Before the Christmas ‘rush,’ we take a few minutes to consider the source of all our abundance, and remind ourselves that this means God,” said Faith “Viera” Lutheran Rev. Ron Meyr, who is coordinating the service. “Plus, giving to those less fortunate feels really good, one of the closest experiences we can have to heaven on Earth.
The joint event is one of several put on each year by the Suntree/Viera Area Association of Churches, a network of churches from Faith Fellowship to the south to Faith “Viera” Lutheran to the north, whose members collect food for the needy and pool resources to provide financial relief for families enduring hard times.
