For locals looking for authentic Mediterranean food, and fast, Olive Tree Greek Grill at The Avenue Viera has from-scratch options for people who want to take it to go, or sit down and enjoy it.
From gyros to falafel to spinach pie, Olive Tree brings new flavor to the 50-year-old family recipes of owner Michael Kastrinakis.
“I always let people know that our food is not just authentic, but it is truly fresh. We don’t make things from a can, or open a bag of lettuce. We buy fresh produce, and make our menu items from scratch,” he said.
Olive Tree opened its doors in May and is building up a regular following for dine-in, carry-out and catering. As more people become aware of the location, they are seeing a steady increase in business.
“We didn’t want to be inside a closed-off mall. It was important to us to be in an open space, where people shopping could stop in, but people getting off work could pull right up to the door and come in to pick up dinner,” said Allyson Kastrinakis, who co-owns the restaurant with her husband.
The Kastrinakis family is no stranger to Greek cuisine. The couple ran the successful Old Olive Tree Restaurant in the Village of Patchogue, N.Y., for more than 30 years. That location was a traditional sit-down restaurant that featured generations-old family recipes. Just this year they sold it and decided to make the Viera area their full-time home.
“Our new spot has the same focus on fresh ingredients, but in a more casual setting. It is fresh food, fast,” Michael Kastrinakis said.
There is even a mobile application for diners who want to order from their phones or tablets and then pick up their food.
