Confidence workshop fights bullying at its roots

Published:

Marty Ward of Viera had a light bulb moment in 2011 when she read about a 10-year-old girl who chose to end her life rather than go to school one more day to confront a bully.

“I said, 'Enough! Not another bright light of a child needs to be snuffed out!"

She founded Confidence Eliminates Bullying, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization through which she has not only made a difference with parents and children in Central Florida, but reached communities in Africa with her Create Confident Kids to Eliminate Bullying Programs.

She will lead a five-week Empowered Parent/Grandparent Workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sundays Oct. 9 through Nov. 6 at Unity Church, 2401 N. Harbor City Blvd. in Melbourne. Child care will be provided.

The course has generated positive comments.

“Ward's parenting workshop was powerful,” said mom and businesswoman Shannon Gronich. “It helps parents find effective ways to communicate and gain cooperation, by far the most effective I have ever heard. Every parent/teacher would benefit.”

Ward said the key is to become a “Confidence Booster” to build up a child rather than a “Fault Finder,” which tears a child down.

“You get more cooperation and time for fun both at school and at home,” Ward said. VV
