Mike Schmitt, a member of the Viera East Men’s Golf Association, has created and launched a new website for the group. Vemagolf.com is now active and members can sign up for future events, check handicaps, review past event results, look at future events and see pictures along with several other programs.

VEMA and the club are excited about Schmitt’s new site and hard work.

VEMA was able to play a three-man scramble before the onset of Hurricane Irma. The team of Fred Bogle, David Horst and Frank Westwell prevailed. Schmitt, Robert Urban and Ed Raleigh placed second. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Craig Smith on No. 4, Brown on No. 7, Horst on No. 13 and Smith once again on No. 16. Smith’s shot on No. 4 landed just 2 inches from the cup.

Gary Shiffrin and Ben Howard won the two-man, best-ball event on Aug. 31. Peter Maloney and John McComas were second. Closest-to-the-pin were Smith on No. 4, Dale Zeigler on No. 7, McComas on No. 13 and Alan Pinnette on No. 16. Zeigler’s shot landed an inch from the cup.

Next month, Inside the Ropes will feature a new tournament called On The Fly and the top 10 golfers from VEMA.

VEMA plays each Thursday at the Viera East Golf Course. All men 21 and older are welcome. It is a fun event for male golfers of all skill levels. A lunch special at Divots follows the event.

VEMA and the club hope everyone is OK after Hurricane Irma.
