The Avenue Viera will host a memorial event honoring those who were lost in the attacks on 9/11, as well as those who were there for the rescue and clean-up efforts from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11.

The ceremony will be held at The Avenue’s 9/11 memorial site, located outside the AMC Theaters' plaza.

Al Boettjer, chairman of the 9/11 Memorial Tribute, said the ceremony is supported by the Brevard County 10-13 Organization. The organization is comprised of retired New York City police officers and retired law enforcement officers from various agencies across the country.

“This ceremony is also supported by the Chiefs of Police Association and the members of their honor guards,” Boettjer said.

Representation from military, police, fire and EMS personnel also plan to attend and participate.

“The heads of all our agencies, mayors, city managers, and more importantly, hundreds of citizens plan to participate and honor the lives lost on 9/11 and the continuing loss of lives as a result of inhalation of toxic smoke and gasses,” Boettjer added.

Retired U.S. Army Col. Danny R. McKnight, State Attorney Phil Archer and Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey are scheduled to attend. Survivors of the 9/11 attacks, including police, fire and first responders, also will speak about the tragic events and aftermath.

A motorcycle procession also will be part of the ceremony, Boettjer said. VV
