Alexander Reed of Boy Scouts Troop 720 of Viera has earned the rank of Eagle Scout with two palms. On Aug. 12, Reed was recognized at an Eagle Court of Honor held at Faith Viera Lutheran Church of Viera.

For his Eagle project, Reed designed, secured the materials and led the construction and installation of eight bat houses in Viera parks to help promote bat population growth and a natural reduction in the mosquito population. He was assisted by 37 other scouts, leaders and friends.

During the ceremony, Reed thanked the Viera Company, Viera area homeowners associations, Eric Byrd of Fairway Property Management and the administrators for Viera public spaces for their cooperation during his work on the project. The project took 318.5 hours to complete.

In May, Reed graduated with honors from Viera High School.
