The Neighbors of Suntree will be back in full swing in September with its annual coffee and membership drive on Sept. 19.
Old members and new members alike are welcome to attend the event held at the Suntree Country Club at One Country Club Drive in Melbourne. The event will cost $10 to attend and reservations should be made in advance and received by mail by Sept. 11.
“It’s like an introduction for new members,” said June Mikell, the president. “We introduce ourselves. We let everyone know about our four big events, and the charities that we’ll be fundraising for.”
The four charities this year are Meals on Wheels, the Brevard Veteran’s Memorial Center, the Animal Sanctuary, and Family Promise of Brevard.
According to Mikell, the Neighbors of Suntree is a way to make new friends, especially if someone is new to the area.
“We have 327 members right now,” Mikell said. “That’s how I made friends when I moved to Suntree. We always welcome new members. Last year, we had 93 new members join.”
The primarily women’s club conducts fundraisers for its four big events — the welcome coffee and membership drive in September, a holiday luncheon, a February fashion show and a spring event, where charities are given their checks. The group also hosts smaller get togethers as well, such as Bunco, book clubs, bridge, luncheons, and coffee and conversation, usually held at a member’s house.
