Manatee Elementary 5K race results in successful book donation
After organizing a successful, first 5K for the Viera community, Manatee Elementary continues to receive positive news about its inaugural race.
The Dr. Seuss 5K race, which took place in March, encouraged participants to donate a gently used book. These donations reached a total of more than 1,000. Last week, these books were picked up by the Supply Zone for Teachers, a service of the Brevard Schools Foundation. The Supply Zone serves teachers at 18 schools in Brevard County that have 70 percent or more students enrolled in the Free and Reduced Lunch program. The books will help many students and teachers.
In addition, more than 400 books were donated to Nemours Children’s Hospital.
Tricia Kuhblank, Manatee Elementary’s media specialist said, “Our hope was to impact an area in need for books and I truly believe that our donation will make a huge difference throughout Brevard County in the hearts of many children, families and teachers classrooms.”
