The Brevard Youth Chorus will hold auditions for singers in grades 4 to 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22 at Suntree United Methodist Church, 7400 N. Wickham Road. Membership in the non-profit chorus is open to students in public, private, charter and home-schools. Both boys and girls are encouraged to audition.

For more information and an appointment time, contact director Joani Slawson at BrevardYouthChorus@gmail.com or call 321-432-2770.

Slawson noted that the choral experience is helpful in numerous ways for youth singers. “The art of music-making is more than just singing notes. So every week, we work on integrating basic music theory, sight-singing and music history in the rehearsals to help make the experience meaningful and fun.”

The select group of youngsters performs at venues and events throughout Brevard. Recent performances include the family concert with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra at the King Center, a Viera and Cocoa Beach holiday concert with the Indialantic Chamber Singers, “Carmina Burana” with the Brevard Community Chorus and more.
