One of the world’s most famous potters is coming to Holy Trinity … and you can take a turn at the wheel right next to him.
Simon Leach will be lecturing, demonstrating and teaching his wheel-throwing techniques during a two-day workshop to be held at the school Sept. 16-17.
“Providing clay artists with the experience to work with one of the best clay artist in the world is such a life altering experience,” Cathy Rodby, Holy Trinity’s Fine Arts Teacher & Department Head said in a statement.
“My students have been learning about famous potters such as Robin Hopper, Warren MacKenzie and Simon Leach from the time they are in Ceramics I through to AP level Ceramics. Simon Leach grew up in a family of potters – just as well-known as he, in fact Simon’s grandfather, Bernard Leach is considered to be the father of western pottery as we know it today.
“To have Simon Leach come here is an opportunity of a lifetime and should not be missed! Those who register for the workshop will be able to sit at the wheel right beside of Mr. Leach and practice what he is showing them.”
The workshop will have eight participatory spots at a cost of $285 per person. There will also be eight observation spots for $100 each.
Students will be able to take home 5-8 pots and bisque firing is available. The clay used will be a cone 4-6 buff colored stoneware.
A $100 non-refundable deposit is due by Sept. 11 and the remainder is due on the first day of class.
