Viera High’s Wind Ensemble is heading to Indianapolis this weekend to perform in the prestigious 20th annual Music for All National Festival.
But there’s still a chance to hear the 55 band members play before they make the trip.
There will be a brief sendoff performance Tuesday night scheduled to begin at 6:30 at the Viera High School Auditorium.
While admission is free, the band would welcome any donations to help offset the cost of the trip for the students, which is expected to total more than $115,000.
Viera will be one of 24 bands from across the nation performing at the festival, which is set for March 12-14. The invitation came following a blind audition process involving submitted audio recordings.
In addition to performing at the festival, there will be a written and recorded evaluation. Viera High students will also take a master class with faculty from Butler University and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
This is the second big performance for the Viera High band, which is directed by Nick Eggen. It also performed at halftime of the 2017 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
