The sixth annual Eat My Crust 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for 7 a.m. May 7. The course, which starts at Viera Pizza and ends at Viera High School, is 3.1 miles and designed for all age levels. Both runners and walkers can participate in the event.
The proceeds of this fun-filled race go to three beneficiaries: Viera High School Athletics, the Special Olympics of Brevard, and Early Steps of Brevard County. During the first five years of the race, $100,000 has been raised.
“We have seen steady growth for the past five years,” said Brittany Streufert, director of the race. “This is not your average 5K. We have a post-race party with unlimited pizza and drinks. And we include all age groups.”
Participants may register individually or as a team. There is a special Fast Track option within the course in which a split track will be provided. Everyone who enters is eligible for this contest. The free Space Coast Runners Youth Series dash and the Lil’ Pepperoni Fun are held following the 5K.
“We even have a pizza delivery challenge, where you run with a pizza box,” Streufert said. “We get quite a few participants doing this challenge.”
Many prizes and freebies will be available after the race, including a chance to have your picture taken with Joey Pepperoni, the Viera Pizza mascot.
“Our grand prize is a golf cart from Golf Carts Unlimited,” Streufert said. “All you have to do is participate in the race and stay for the post party for a chance to win a golf cart.”
The post-race party will be held at Viera High School.
Registration costs $25 for adults, $23 for students, and children 8 and younger can compete for free. Save money by registering prior to April 23, when prices increase to $30. To register, go to secure.runningzone.com/eatmycrust/.
Packets are available for pickup, starting May 4 at the Running Zone. Packets also can be picked at 6 a.m. on the day of the race. The race begins at 7 a.m. at Viera Pizza, which is located at 5450 Stadium Parkway, Viera.
