Icons: Mancini & Hamlisch Tribute

Published:

Conductor and Artistic Director Aaron Collins and the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will pay tribute to two giants of movie music with Icons: Mancini & Hamlisch at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12 in Suntree.

Presented at the Scott Center for the Performing Arts at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, 5625 Holy Trinity Dr., the symphony concert will feature the music of Henry Mancini and Marvin Hamlisch, composers who won Oscars, Grammys and the hearts of music lovers around the world. The mention of their names brings to mind movie titles such as Breakfast at Tiffany's, Charade, Ice Castles, A Chorus Line, The Way We Were and The Pink Panther, evoking a kind of '60s cool that appealed to the senses then and now.

The concert is free for ages 18 and under or with a student ID. Advance tickets for adults are $20 and are available through the orchestra website at SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at several convenient ticket outlets, including Ace Hardware stores in Indialantic and Cocoa Beach, Blue Sky Insurance in Cocoa Village, Tropical Realty of Suntree, Art Expressions in downtown Eau Gallie, Atlantic Strings in Melbourne, A Floral Affair in Merritt Island, Brass & Reed Music Store in Merritt Island, La Moda Boutique in Satellite Beach and Brevard Florist in Palm Bay. Tickets at the door are $25.

For Collins, Henry Mancini and Marvin Hamlisch are composers of the first rank.

“The concert title really says it all,” he said. “Beyond their firm place as excellent composers, Mancini and Hamlisch are true music icons. Their work represents a uniquely American style that is both mature and undeniably hip.”
