Cape Canaveral National Cemetery to hold POW/MIA Remembrance Day event

The 2nd Annual Prisoner of War, Missing in Action, Outdoor Remembrance Educational Event will be held at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, September 10.

NASA Astronaut Michael McCulley will be the keynote speaker for the event, to be held in the Flag Assembly area at the cemetery. Cape Canaveral National Cemetery is located at 5525 US 1 in Mims.

POW-MIA- OREE is the only event in which the names of all who are interred at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery will be read. Following the live reading, a custom challenge coin will be placed on every headstone for the family of those interred. Each coin signifies that “No Veteran Should Ever Be Forgotten.”

The program supports the National POW/MIA Remembrance Day which is observed on the third Friday each September.

The event is hosted by its founder, Eagle Scout Joshua Katz. The ceremony will be conducted by Joshua and Scout Troop 337, and supported by Boy Scouts from across Florida.

The event is open to the public. Guests should arrive no later than 8:15 a.m. and parking is available adjacent to the Flag Assembly Area.
