Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy has a new varsity girls basketball coach.

Jay Castillo, who has more than 20 years of basketball coaching experience, has agreed to take over the program after Marc Bailey moved over to coach the school’s track & field teams.

Castillo was the Tigers’ JV girls coach last season. Additionally, he has served as the varsity girls head coach at Merritt Island and Florida Air Academy. He has also been the varsity boys and JV head coach at Cocoa Beach High and the assistant boys coach at Florida Air Academy.

During his time at Florida Air, the girls team reached the Final Four and the boys team won four state championships.

“The first day I walked onto the campus the overall atmosphere was very positive and has continued since,” Castillo said in a press release provided by the school. “The administration, teachers, and parents are involved and supportive in all aspects for the students. This helps me to drive the overall goal of teamwork. Through teamwork, we will teach life skills and strive to compete (for) championships.”

Athletic director Scott Crockett lauded Castillo’s coaching experience and had this to say about the coach in the school release:

“He served as the Junior Varsity Girls’ Basketball coach last winter, and I was impressed with his ability to communicate and work with our student-athletes. I am excited to watch him lead the program into the future, and I believe he is a great fit for the Holy Trinity community.”
