Orlando City SC to play for MLS is Back tourney title

Orlando City SC has a chance to pull off something special Tuesday night at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista.

The Lions are scheduled to face the Portland Timbers at 8:30 p.m. in the championship game of the MLS is Back Tournament. The event is set to be televised on ESPN.

Tuesday’s winner will not only get a chance to hoist a championship trophy, but will also earn a spot in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League.

Orlando City, which had never made the MLS Cup playoffs or finished better than seventh in the Eastern Conference since making its Major League Soccer debut in 2015, is on quite a roll.

The Lions advanced to the MLS is Back final with a 3-1 victory over Minnesota last Thursday. Portuguese star Nani scored twice in a span of just six minutes to lead Orlando City SC to the win. Benji Michel added the third goal.

The Lions defeated LAFC 5-4 on penalty kicks after playing to a 1-1 tie in regulation during their quarterfinal. Once again, it was Nani who came up big for Orlando City SC when he converted the game-winning penalty kick.

Nani is in his second year with the Lions. Tuesday night, he’ll try to lead them to their first championship.
