USSSA Space Coast Complex to host elite softball tournament

First event held at new state-of-the-art facility

Talk about a grand opening.

The USSSA Space Coast Complex will debut its new state-of-the-art facility when it hosts close to 50 softball teams from around the country this weekend at the USA Elite Select fastpitch Top Gun Challenger.

After taking over the former spring training home of the Washington Nationals, the USSSA spent nearly a year constructing its new complex, which features 15 AstroTurf fields.

The Top Gun Challenger tournament begins Saturday and runs through Monday. Games begin at 8:30 a.m. (gates open at 6:30) with teams in the 14U, 16U and 18U age brackets.

Each team will play at least six games and the winner of the tournament will receive a berth for the 2018 USA Elite Select World Fastpitch Championship.

Adult ticket prices are $12 a day and $32 for the length of the event. Youth tickets are $10 a day and $26 for the length of the event.

The USSSA Complex will play host to several baseball, fastpitch and slowpitch events this season. It will also be the home for the USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch League and is allowing the Viera High baseball and softball teams to play there for free.

Those who have seen the facility, including Viera High baseball coach Bob Doty, have raved about it. Doty called the complex “immaculate.”

And this weekend, some of the top softball teams in the country will be on hand to show it off.

“It’s a great weekend for all employees and partners of USSSA as we open our new home for 20 years,” USSSA Space Coast Complex General Manager Kevin Reynolds said in a press release.
