The Viera High tennis program had never produced a state champion … until now.

And we’re not just talking about one state title, either.

Yep. We’re talking about two.

Viera junior Sasha Belaya defeated Geetha Velusamy of East Lake 6-2, 6-3 to win the Class 3A individual singles championship at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs on Thursday.

Belaya then teamed with sophomore Izzie Diaz to win the doubles championship with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-1) win over Catherine Jakeway and Gabriela Castello of Nease.

The state championships capped a magical season for the Hawks, who went undefeated in the regular season and advanced to the regional finals before losing to eventual state champ West Boca Raton.
