The Space Coast United Soccer Club’s U16 99/00 girls travel team is heading to the nationals in Aurora, Colorado in July after winning the U.S. Club Soccer’s Florida Cup title with a 5-1 victory over the West Florida Flames 99’ Girls Elite Brandon squad this past weekend at the IMG Academy in Bradenton.

Layne Greenfield scored two goals and Ali Tosches, Elena Barr, and Emily Bodi scored once each for SCU.

“Right from the start I could tell the girls were really up for the game and went on to play the best I have seen them play all season,” Space Coast United coach Cal Dixon said in a statement.

“We were by far the better team and although up 2-0 up at half, I reminded the girls (the) game was not over and they needed to keep up the same type of performance in the second half, if we were going to win the game.”

With six players from Viera High’s state championship team that is ranked No. 1 in the nation, this is one SCU team that knows how to close out an opponent. And that’s just what it did.

The national tournament will take place July 22-25 in Colorado.

Space Coast United Soccer Club is hosting an NPL ID Camp May 23 and 24th at Viera Regional Park. The event is free of charge, but pre-registration is required. Visit spacecoastsoccer.org for more information.
