Gianchandani wins Space Coast Women’s Amateur title

Ami Gianchandani won the first Space Coast Women's Amateur tournament by 10 strokes. The New Jersey High School student was vising Brevard County on spring break.

The first Space Coast Women’s Amateur Champion has been crowned.

Ami Gianchandani, a high school senior from Watchung, New Jersey shot a two-day total of 4-under par to claim the top flight earlier this month in a field filled with top local amateurs.

Gianchandani finished 10 strokes ahead of second-place place finisher, and former Florida Tech standout, Brittany Lapadula.

Ami, who was in town on Spring Break and is a student of Duran Head Professional Matt Morrison will be heading to Yale to play golf in the fall of 2018.

 “We are thrilled to have Ami as our first-ever Space Coast Amateur Champion,” Duran Head PGA Professional Matt Morrison wrote in an email. “Ami got off to a great start. She was 7-under after her first 12 holes of the event.

“She was able to build a big lead and she maintained that lead with some brilliant play”.

Gianchandani, who was in town on spring break, is a student of Morrison’s and will be heading to Yale to play golf in the fall.

The event, which was sponsored by the Rodriguez family, featured several other flights.  

Morela Boyd of Merritt Island won the low net honors in the top flight. Sally Soutter of Viera won low gross in the B Flight, while Carol Mecenko won the low gross in the C Flight and Brenda Duke took the low net prize.
