The Viera High boys basketball team is one win away from becoming district champion.

Cooper Davis scored 16 points and had 13 rebounds as the third-seeded Hawks defeated No. 2 Sebastian River 50-43 Wednesday night in the Class 6A, District 5 semifinals at Melbourne High.

Viera (15-11) will take on the No. 1 Bulldogs (17-9) in the championship game Friday night at 7 at Melbourne.

The two teams met once in December during the regular season with Viera coming away with a 52-47 victory.

In addition to Davis’ big night, the Hawks also got a big performance off the bench from A.J. Toney, who had 10 points – including three 3-pointers – and turned in a strong defensive performance against Sebastian River.

“We had big contributions from our bench and that helped us immensely playing on back-to-back nights, less than 24 hours apart,” Viera coach Logan Keith said.
