Viera, Holy Trinity football teams will play fewer district opponents in 2015

The Viera High football team will play in a smaller district for the next three years.

Eau Gallie and Sebastian River are out, while South Fork (Stuart) is in along with Martin County and Melbourne in the new classification cycle for 2015-18 released by the Florida High School Athletic Association on Friday.

The Hawks were the champions of Class 7A, District 6 last season

Eau Gallie, which had previously petitioned to move up a classification, chose not to do so this time around and will play in 6A along with Sebastian River.

Holy Trinity’s district shrinks, too

The size of Holy Trinity’s district has been cut in half under the new classification rankings.

The Tigers will compete in Class 3A, District 6 against John Carroll (Fort Pierce) and Melbourne Central Catholic from 2015-18.

That’s a stark contrast from the six-team district Holy Trinity had been previously competing in. First Academy and Trinity Prep will now play in District 3 and Orangewood Christian has gone independent.
