They dominated their opponents in the District 2 tournament.
And, this past weekend, they dominated their sectional tournament, too.
Suffice it enough to say when the Viera-Suntree Little League All-Stars baseball team heads to the state tournament in Coral Springs this weekend, it will be going in with a lot of confidence.
The VSLL opened its sectional tournament in Port St. Lucie with an 11-5 win over Boynton Beach.
Finn Goldinger went 4-for-4 and hit a three-run home run for the VSLL. He finished the game with four RBIs.
Jonah Peacock had two hits and scored three runs. Micah Cheatham also had a pair of singles. Izzy Birru had a key sacrifice bunt and every other player on the team reached base at least once.
Brennan Confreda got the start and allowed three hits and two earned runs while striking out six. He was relieved by Deaglan McBride, who gave up five hits and two earned runs while walking none and striking out six.
With the win, the VSLL needed to beat Martin County North to secure its spot in the state tournament.
And once again, the VSLL offense was more than up for the task, collecting hit after hit on the way to a 16-0 victory in just three innings.
Once again, Goldinger helped lead the way, going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Cheatham went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Brandon Reiter went 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Peacock had two hits, scored twice and drove in two runs. Dominic Leoni went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Confreda had a single, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He also scored two runs.
Birru went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Mikey Minarik went all three innings on the mound, allowing one hit and striking out six.
The state tournament will take place at Mullins Park in Coral Springs this weekend.
The VSLL has been placed in Pool B, which also features Niceville, Northeast and Merritt Island.
Play begins Friday night when Merritt Island will play Niceville at 6 p.m., followed by Northeast vs. VSLL at 8 p.m.
An all-Brevard County Matchup between the VSLL and Merritt Island will take place Saturday, though the timing of that game will be determined by Friday night’s results.
The state championship game is set for Sunday at 10 a.m. with the Pool B winner facing the winner of Pool A. Those teams include Oviedo, North Springs, Greater Naples and Plant City.
