There wasn’t any doubt about this one.

The Viera-Suntree Little League All-Star Majors baseball team won the state championship on Sunday with a 10-0 win over Plant City in five innings at Mullins Park in Coral Springs.

With the win, the team will advance to the Southeast Regional, which is set for Aug. 2-7 in Warner Robins, Georgia.

“Our boys have been able to stay relaxed and consistently execute each game plan,” VSLL manager Russell Cheatham wrote in an email.

“Their poise has been remarkable.”

Evan Lipski got the win on the mound for the VSLL, allowing just one hit while striking out four.

The VSLL clinched the win in the fifth when, after Plant City intentionally walked Austin Marshall to load the bases, Finn Goldinger bunted the ball down the third-base line. Micah Cheatham scored as the ball came out of the catcher’s glove to make the score 10-0.

Micah Cheatham went 3-for-3 with two runs scored for the VSLL. Brandon Reiter had a single, an RBI and scored a run. Izzy Birru had a hit, was hit by a pitch, and scored two runs while also driving in two.

Lipski had a two-run double.

Other players who played key roles Sunday, and throughout the All-Star season, include: Brennan Confreda; Robbie Caruso; Dominic Leoni; Colton Marshall; Deaglan McBride; Mikey Minarik and Jonah Peacock.

Except for Saturday’s game against Niceville, where the VSLL had to rally from a 6-0 deficit, it has dominated much of its competition throughout district, sectional and state tournament play.

Now, it’s onto the Southeast Regionals.
