The Viera-Suntree Little League 50-70 (Intermediate) Baseball team may not have advanced out of the sectionals on Saturday.

But the team did make history.

After dropping its first game to eventual sectional champion North Palm Beach 10-0, the VSLL defeated Hope Sound/North Martin County 4-2 in its second game at Citrus Park in Palm City.

It’s the first time in VSLL history that a 50-70 team has won a game at the sectionals.

“The coaches and I are very proud of the accomplishment for only playing together for about a month as a team,” VSLL manager David Jacobs wrote in an email.

James Baxter started the first game and struck out five batters.

Carson Cruse went six innings in the second game, striking out eight. Landon Norton came on in the seventh to get the save and struck out one.

At the plate, Jay Fowler went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run. Alex Jacobs had a single, a walk and scored a run. Cruse also had a single, a walk and scored a run.
