VSLL Majors, Juniors baseball teams closing in on district titles
Micah Cheatham had an inside-the-park home run for the Viera-Suntree Little League Baseball Majors All-Stars over the weekend as the team moved into Wednesday's championship game with a pair of victories. The VSLL Juniors, meanwhile, won on Sunday and can win the district title Monday night at Viera Regional Park.

The Viera-Suntree Little League Majors and Juniors Baseball All-Star teams are both one win away from hoisting a District 2 championship banner.
The Juniors defeated Eau Gallie 7-2 on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five series. The Majors, meanwhile, defeated South Beaches Little League 10-0 in five innings to advance to the district title game where they will have to be defeated twice in order to be deprived of the championship.
Viera Regional Park will be the site of tonight’s Juniors game between the VSLL and Eau Gallie. Game time is set for 6:30.
The VSLL Majors will have their first chance to win the title Wednesday night at 6:30 at Rodes Park. They will face the winner of Tuesday’s game between Eau Gallie and South Beaches.
For the second game in a row, the VSLL Juniors were able to break open a tight game to come away with a comfortable victory.
With the scored tied 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning, Lucas Glendinning delivered a two-run single on a 2-0 pitch to put the VSLL in front.
Dylan Jordan got the start on the mound for the VSLL, allowing four hits and two runs over two innings. He struck out two.
Cole Smith went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the VSLL offense. Glendinning also had two hits.
After going 4-0 in pool play, the VSLL continued to exert its dominance over its District 2 rivals this weekend.
Micah Cheatham had an inside-the-park home run and Jonah Peacock went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs in a 16-0 win over Beachside on Saturday.
Brennan Confreda went 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBIs. Finn Goldinger had two hits and drove in two runs. Robbie Caruso had two hits, including a double and two RBIs.
Evan Lipski hit a two-run home run. Colton Marshall had a single and Austin Marshall had a two-run double.
Confreda started the game on the mound, striking out six and allowing one hit over two innings. Colton Marshall struck out three and did not allow a hit in two innings. Mikey Minarik also threw two hitless innings, striking out four.
The VSLL made it back-to-back shutouts on Sunday.
Minarik did not allow a hit in his 2 2/3 innings of work, striking out seven. Deaglan McBride then came on and allowed one hit while striking out three in 1 1/3 innings.
At the plate, Cheatham had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Goldinger also had two hits and an RBI. Confreda went 3-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.
Caruso had a hit, a walk and two RBIs. Austin Marshall had a double and two RBIs.
In the two games it played over the weekend, the VSLL outscored its opponents 26-0 and allowed just two hits. In the six games in has played in the District 2 All-Star tournament, it has won by a margin of 85-14.
