Talk about a Zach attack.
Zach Zulawski had a strong day on the mound, Zach Florido had a big day at the plate and Zach Jordan added an RBI single of his own to lead the Viera-Suntree Senior All-Stars to a 9-4 victory over Eau Gallie Little League Saturday at Viera Regional Park.
The victory gives the VSLL a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series that will decide the District 2 championship.
“Solid pitching. Solid defense. The bats came alive,” VSLL assistant coach Jarret Behrens said. “In practice, we’ve been working on harder pitching, curveballs. We know what these guys were about, having seen them in the regular season.
“These guys worked hard in practice and it showed today.”
Zulawski went six innings for the VSLL, striking out three while giving up four runs, two of which were unearned. Robbie Behrens came on to pitch a scoreless seventh inning to close out the game.
“(Zach) was hitting his spots and making good pitches,” assistant coach Todd Latawa said of Zulawski.
Florido, meanwhile, went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base. The one time he did not get a hit, he reached base on an error.
“He’s got a great bat,” Jarret Behrens said. “I don’t care who you throw at him, or what you throw at him, he’s going to hit the ball.”
The VSLL took the lead in the top of the first when Florido singled and eventually scored on an EGLL throwing error. Zion Hernandez then walked with the bases loaded to bring home Robbie Behrens and make it a 2-0 game.
It became 3-0 an inning later when Florido singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Jordan.
Leading 3-1 going into the top of the fourth, the VSLL broke the game open by scoring six runs.
Mikey Rappucci and Hernandez got things started when they reached base after getting hit by pitches.
A run-scoring fielder’s choice by Gavin Latawa, RBI singles by Zulawski and Jack Malatino, followed by Florido’s two-run double helped fuel the inning. Florido would later score on a passed ball.
The VSLL will have a chance to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series when play resumes Tuesday night at 6:30 at Viera Regional Park.

With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the VSLL worked the double steal to perfection as Collin Mutz stole second base and Tyler Rosenberger broke for home on the throw.
Jay Fowler and Baxter then walked to lead off the sixth. After both runners stole a base, Nolan Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to score Fowler. Landon Norton then doubled to left field to score Baxter and make it a 4-1 game.
