Softball is coming back to the USSSA Space Coast Complex tonight.

The Pride will take on team now known as This Is Us at 6 p.m.

This Is Us is made up of players who were formerly members of the Scrap Yard Dawgs organization.

Tickets can be purchased online at etix.com. Prices are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and military and $5 for children. The gates will open at 5 p.m.

Following Monday night’s season-opening game in Viera, Scrap Yard Dawg players vowed to never represent the organization again after becoming aware of a politically-charged post that appeared on the team’s Twitter page.

The post included a photo of players standing for the national anthem and read: “Hey @realDonaldTrump Pro Fastpitch being played live @usssaspacecoast @USSAPride Everyone respecting the FLAG!”

Players from both teams denounced the tweet and members of the Scrap Yard Dawgs – which includes 11 members of Team USA that will play in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics -- said they felt like they were blindsided by the tweet, and that they were also being used as political pawns.

President Trump has long criticized players for kneeling during the national anthem saying they are disrespecting the flag and the military.

Those who kneel insist they are doing so to raise awareness of racial injustice and police brutality. And after years of debate, the move appears to be taking hold. The NFL and US Soccer both recently announced players would be allowed to kneel during the anthem.

The USSSA Pride issued a statement in support of the now former Scrap Yard Dog players. On Wednesday, the team announced its 2020 season had been postponed.

Tonight, the players will take the field again. There is no word on whether more games will be scheduled. Check out usssapride.com for schedule updates.
