Folio closes out career with second-place finish, Viera boys 19th at state cross country meet

The Holy Trinity girls finished fifth at the 2016 Class 1A state meet.

Holy Trinity senior Samantha Folio closed out her highly-decorated cross country career with a second-place finish at the Class 1A state meet over the weekend at Appalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

Folio, who has been a team captain since her freshman year, came in with a time of 18:34.23 to help lead the Tigers to a fifth-place finish in the team standings.

Senior Abigail McHenry was the next-highest finisher for Holy Trinity. She finished 43rd in 20:57.19. Eighth-grader Alexa Baker was 58th in 21:19.45. Sophomore Vergara Wiechecki was 69th in 21:35.81. Eighth-grader Brooke Siviter was 76th in 21:43.3. Senior Mackenzie Willis was 102nd in 22:28.28 and senior Claire Layton was 139th in 23:35.3

Viera boys 19th, Liddle 57th in 3A state meet

The Viera High boys finished 19th overall at the Class 3A state meet.

Senior David Quigley came in 38th with a time of 16:50.24 to lead the Hawks. He was followed by senior Alex Krestan (17:06.82), sophomore Andy Martinez (17:39.52), junior Drake Vaske (19:09.29), sophomore Jordan Sichler (19:15.62), freshman Tyler Mielke (19:24.39) and senior Kevin McMahan (19:32.16).

Viera junior Abbigail Liddle, who qualified for the girls state meet as an individual, finished 57th overall with a time of 20:32.63.
