Former Viera High soccer standout Nicki Fisher was back in town this week. The former Hawk was playing for Darton State College at the NJCAA women’s soccer national championship tournament at Eastern Florida State College.

Darton won its first game against Iowa Western, but lost to Tyler and was eventually eliminated from pool play.

Fisher, who was on Viera’s first state championship team, will forever be known as part of the last Darton State women’s soccer team. The school is merging with Albany State.

“We didn’t have a very big team, but I liked it because we were all like a family,” Fisher said. “We were super close. We know how to put our hearts out there. I’m really proud of our team this year, because we really had a lot passion and we were so close that we worked hard for each other.”

Fisher still keeps in touch with her Viera teammates and stays up to date on the current team because her sister, Cori, is on the team and was part of last year’s state title team.

Nicki said she is waiting until the nationals are over to figure out where she will continue her playing career.
